Hoover's rapid growth from the 1970s through the 2000s produced large, planned residential developments -- Riverchase, Ross Bridge, Trace Crossings, and others -- built around the Riverchase Galleria and, for a time, the Hoover Metropolitan Stadium ballpark. Because most of the city's housing dates to that single long building boom, many Hoover homes are now reaching the 25-to-45-year mark at the same time, a point when roofs, HVAC systems, and original foundations across an entire subdivision start needing attention together -- on top of the clay-soil movement common to the Birmingham area generally.
